Assistive Technology Assistance

Assistive Technology for the Blind and Visually Impaired

According to Assistive Technology Industry Association (ATIA), assistive technology is “products, equipment, and systems that enhance learning, working, and daily living for persons with disabilities”. There is general technology that is commonly used that blind people can access (e.g. computers, smart phone) and their is assistive technology designed especially for blind people (e.g. Victor Reader and braille displays)

As a totally blind person, I specialize in helping blind and visually impaired people use technology to work and enjoy their lives at home and in the broader society. While assistive technology for the blind is a broad category, I help blind and visually impaired people use personal computing, software, and applications for home, work, and hobbies.

Are you blind, visually impaired or do you work with the blind or visually impaired and are looking to use technology for:

  1. Entertainment and Hobbies (e.g. Audiobooks, SiriusXM, Apple Music, Amazon Music)

  2. Personal Activities and Obligations (e.g. online banking, transportation apps, shopping)

  3. Communication (e.g. text, email, and Zoom)

  4. Work and School (e.g. Word, Outlook, Excel)

  5. General use of screen readers/magnification software (e.g. JAWS, VoiceOver, NVDA, and ZoomText)

As a blind or visually impaired person, I can help you learn

  1. How to use technology without relying on friends and family

  2. How to use technology without using voice recognition software

  3. How to use screen reader programs without relying on friends and family

  4. How to use technology to accomplish tasks at work and/or school

  5. A sense of confidence and independence

Or if you work with or love a blind or visually impaired person, I can equip you to support your loved one, student, colleague, or friend.

If I can be helpful to you in your assistive technology journey, please contact me.
